“What happens when two iconic pig-tailed provocateurs join forces in the kitchen?,” Wendy’s questioned in early August on their website. Shortly after this question was announced, Wendy’s announced they were making a collaboration with the Netflix show Wednesday. The show Wednesday is Tim Burton’s vision for the pivotal character from the classic show The Addams Family with its original series being released in 1964. After the series had so much success in the 60s, it transformed into a movie which was released in 1991. Nonetheless, the movie also did significantly well at the box office. According to The Numbers, the movie had a budget of $30,000,000. However, they received $191,502,243 in the box office worldwide. When it was known how successful The Addams Family was in theaters, more movies were released, and it was even turned into a Broadway musical. What made this television family so successful was the abnormal aspect of the family as they were all obsessed with gore, the feeling of fright, the color black, and the overall knowing of their abnormality.
After a long awaited three years since the first season of the Wednesday series came out, Season Two was released in two separate parts. The first part was dropped on August 6, leading with the first four episodes. The next part came out a little less than a month later on September 3, ending with the last four. As expected, the second season was quite successful. However, it was not as successful as the first season. Despite not doing as well as the first season, there were many more advertisements and promotions for the second season, such as their collaboration with the staple fast food restaurant, Wendy’s.
The Wendy’s and Wednesday collaboration began on August 4 and is suspected to discontinue near the end of September. The menu features an exclusive meal called the Meal of Misfortune which features a 10 pack of chicken nuggets, specifically named, Rest In 10 Piece Nuggets.” The nuggets are perfectly seasoned with a very crunchy outer layer. Following the nuggets is a portion of fries called “The Cursed and Crispy Fries.” Unlike the chicken, the fries were very underwhelming and are not very tasty. Topping off the meal was a cherry sundae called the “Raven’s Blood Frosty.” The Frosty can be vanilla or chocolate, as it was up to the customer’s preference. The Frosty was delicious just how a normal Frosty is from Wendy’s. However, the cherry flavor was more of a ‘medicine’ cherry rather than a sweet cherry. To add a little spice to the meal, they designed a mystery sauce method where guests do not know what the sauce’s flavor would be or the spice level inside. After receiving all the different spice levels and flavors, the sauces reflected a bloody look while tasting like a spicy barbeque sauce. The spice level on the sauces got very intense. As Wednesday would say, it makes it, “Painful.”
Despite the taste of the food, the packaging was truly phenomenal. Each packaging looked like Wednesday’s school uniform outfit in the series, mimicking the look of a gravestone. Overall, the meal was tasty and was very fun to purchase, although I could have skipped out on the fries. Along with the meal, the series is also very enjoyable and definitely a must-see. If you have not seen the series or enjoyed the meal, a perfect night could be watching the series while enjoying a bloody and mysterious meal.
