(Above) In 2022, novelist and critic Jo Hamya with The Booker Prizes interviewed Moshin Hamid and his editor Simon Prosser. The original title of the book was All Migrants Through Time. Moshin and his editor agreed that title was, “overly poetic” and, “‘non-fiction-y’.” Moshin adds that this title was “Lacking in any actual plot.” Moshin’s wife, Zahra, came up with the title To Exit West, which later changed to Exit West.

(Above) As with most types of injustice and trauma, the first thing affected is the brain. As women place constrictions on themselves about how they should speak and act, they fight against the part of themselves that sees themselves as equal to both men, but also other women. Furthermore, the contradictions placed on women add a layer of complexity. In young women particularly, as they see how different women act in scenarios, both parties second guess their choices, not realizing that they are trying meet a standard that is difficult to fit within. This causes a lack of self-confidence and heighted anxienty, which can lead to even more consequences.

(Above) So much of the modern world is visual. Poetry doesn’t have to come through just black and white letters on a page; it can dance in swirls and color too. Through this poetry collage, there can be seen contemperorary poets such as Ocean Vuong and Louise Glück. There are 19th and 20th century poets such as Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson. And of course, there is the newest brand of one-line poetry popularized by Atticus, a pseudonym for a poet who remains anonymous. There is still a whole world of poets and poetry to explore beyond the frames of this one collective photograph. The following list of additional poets I would personally recommend is by no means comprehensive: K-Ming Chang, Ross Gay, Hanif Abdurraqib, Victoria Chang, Sonia Sanchez, Sylvia Plath, T.S. Eliot, Percy Shelley, and William Wordsworth.

(Above) Located on the patio wall of Tako Cheena on Mills 50 is a string of different mural pieces brought together through a collective color palette consisting of reds, blues, oranges, and yellows, to create one cohesive masterpiece at this Asian fusion restaurant. Just near school, Mills 50 is known as “The intersection of creativity and culture,” according to its Facebook page. There are countless opportunities for artistic expression, as there’s murals everywhere that paint the streets in color. This allows for representation of Orlando’s many talented artists and attracts Orlando residents to enjoy Mills 50’s unique restaurants, nightlife, live music, museums, and shopping opportunities. Check out some of this district’s murals the next time you drive to school!

(Above) The Senate held a weekend session in the Capitol Building. Located in Washington, D.C., the Capitol Building attracts three to five million visitors from around the world each year. Its North Wing holds Senate meetings, while its South Wing holds House of Representatives meetings. Last year, Lake Highland’s Young Democrats club held a voter registration drive, and this year’s voter registration drive will begin on September ninth. After that, Aleena Reddy plans to get students involved in the election through phone-banking and letter-writing. Prateek Seela, grade 12, will be helping coordinate training for volunteering at polling precincts.

When asked if he was excited about the new field Nick said, "Yes because I am starting to get tired of the grass," referring to the L-HAC lot. The new location is a condition for the football team. Nick also explained that it is different playing his home games on the road he said, "It is very empty. Kind of funny." Nick Seferlis mentioned he is going to be thrilled when the new football field is finished. It will make game days even most exciting and enjoyable for him and the rest of the team.

Manager Mehr Ohri, grade 10, who has only just become a basketball manager this year, says, “My favorite part of being a manager for the basketball team is getting to sit on the bench and watch the home games, especially the ones that we win.” Mehr along with her fellow managers help the players throughout the game by handing out water as well.

Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces made me so excited to start fundraising so we could give these kids a better education.”

(Above) One of the volunteers at E.S.T.H.E.R. taught a Highlander how to correctly fill the pantries up for the mothers to receive later on in the week. Later everyone joined in to help with the food. After this section of the activities, everybody moved to the second room where the volunteers made paper flowers to attach to the goodie bags, which include a variety of snack for the children. These bags included a variety of snacks to cheer them up, including chips, cookies, and more. When the children receive these bags, they give hope and comfort that some of them don't get to experience too often. This is why E.S.T.H.E.R. wants every task performed to a volunteer's best effort.

Blake Lively also was the executive producer of It Ends With Us. She even got her husband, Ryan Reynolds, involved in the p[production of the film. Lively recently stated that Reynolds contributed to making the rooftop scene at the beginning of the movie. Lively has also recently been stating that her costar and director, Justin Baldoni, has been fat-shaming her. According to Lively, there was a scene where Ryle (Baldoni) had to pick Lily (Lively) up. Bandoni allegedly had lasting back issues, therefore, he enquired with the on-set trainer how much she weighed so that he could prepare for the scene. Lively also contributed to the main song of the movie. The song title was “My Tears Ricochet” by Taylor Swift. Blake and Taylor are very close friends in real life, so Blake wanted to contribute to her in the movie.

Savannah is a former Varsity Cheerleader at LHP and looks forward to trying a new sport this school year. Outside of school, Savannah loves listening to music, watching films, and exploring fashion. (Above) The Regal Movie Theater in Oviedo Mall is a local staple whenever the latest movies drop, especially during the summer season when locals need a break from the scorching hot sun. Before COVID-19, the theater was mildly busy, and ever since the end of the pandemic, the theater has not regained that popularity. The best time to go to the Regal Movie Theater in Oviedo Mall is Tuesdays since that is when they have the best deals on ticket prices and popcorn. Shoppers can pair their day with a movie and snack to enhance their experience at Oviedo Mall. In the past, the Oviedo Mall has offered rental space on Sundays for local church groups such as the Palmwood Church. Growing up around the Oviedo Mall my entire life has given me more than a decade to form my opinion on the movie theater. Although the theater has not gotten many updates, it remains to have great service, great snacks, great drinks, comfortable seats, the movies we are excited to see, and good memories are always made.

CFS Coffee Shop is known for their beautiful, authentic coffee cups and plates that are made in Latin America, and are available to buy in their stores. Out of the many delicious options, the Rainbow Lavender Latte, has an amazingly unique lavender flavor that pairs so well with their strong coffee. (Above) The cosmetic industry plays a significant role in fueling ageism by perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards and promoting products that promise to reverse or prevent the signs of aging. Many companies within this industry capitalize on society's obsession with youth, often employing marketing tactics that reinforce ageist stereotypes. For instance, beauty brands like L'Oréal have come under scrutiny for campaigns that seemingly celebrate older women but still emphasize their products' "anti-aging" properties. Similarly, companies like Estée Lauder market their products with phrases like "turn back the clock" and "age-defying," further contributing to the notion that aging is something to be feared and avoided at all costs. Like plastic surgery, topical remedies for aging won’t transform you. Billion-dollar companies aren’t dedicated to making the world look younger. They’re preying on easy insecurities, and we fall for it every time. In 2021, the global anti-aging market was estimated to be worth about 62.6 billion U.S. dollars according to Statistica, and this number is expected to increase significantly in the next few years.
