Eola View, an unassuming building in the heart of Downtown Orlando, seems unseemly at first, but after riding a surprisingly spacious elevator to the third floor, it transforms into a stunning venue with floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful view of the city. The space is primarily meant for weddings, but on Sunday November 16, Orlando International Fashion Week (OIFW) hosted a “Celebrity Style” fashion show. The dazzling space was turned into a living stage with a floor level runway, a bar, and a bustling crowd of fashion patrons.
The lights dimmed, and conversations came to a halt as a girl in a light pink mini skirt and chunky, white platform boots stepped onto the runway. Her name was Natalia Novais, a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter who delivered a beautiful performance of her original song, “Be My 4Ever.” After she finished, the audience erupted in applause. Smiling, she stepped off the stage, allowing the fashion show to commence. The first collection was from Dillard’s adult clothing line with one of the most notable looks being a white and black blazer with black dress pants, a black undershirt, a small silver chain, and black dress shoes. All eight models in the collection were absolutely stunning, each one presenting their own unique look with confidence and a little bit of flair.
After the first fashion showcase, the Moova Dance Studio captivated the audience with an incredible display of choreography and talent. The dancers wore black and gold outfits which almost seemed to radiate as they showcased their mesmerizing routine. Next, Ingrid Tu Varedad Boutique graced the stage with a beautiful collection of dresses for young and adolescent girls. They dazzled the audience under the purple stage lights, each dress sparkling with sequins or shimmering with glossy silk. Then, 11 year old Alyssa Herrera walked onto stage and everyone was instantly drawn in by her energy. Her long hair was fashioned with beads and her fitted long sleeve red shirt and black high waisted pants with dramatic ruffles had a confident and powerful feel, matching her extraordinary vocals.
The Dillard’s youth collection gave audience members a cuteness overload when adorable girls and boys in mini dresses and suits walked the runway. Their baby faces, smiles, and formal wear melted the hearts of everyone in the venue. They were followed by Betta Novais, a brand created by Elizabeth Novais who is known for her hand stitched designs and beautiful artistry. Her outfits were geared towards teens and young kids combining stylish streetwear with formal attire. Dillard’s adolescent collection came next. Their line included prom dresses, formal wear, and upgraded street style. Each outfit was the perfect ensemble for an elegant, classy night out.
The audience smiled and giggled with glee when My Little Matilda took the stage with all of their playful colors and patterns. Kids of all ages walked the runway, twirling and laughing, wearing glowing fairy wings that flapped when they walked. Then, Davenport Fashion Lab wowed the audience. Each of their outfits was carefully made with unique patterns and textures, showcasing the incredible talent at Davenport High School. Currently, the program has a high demand with a waiting list of over 200 students, just waiting for their chance to try their hand at design. The collection proved that anyone can be a fashionista, no matter their age.
From the energetic opening of Natalia Novais to the impressive finale by Davenport Fashion Lab, the showcase celebrated all the innovation and artistry in the local fashion scene. The event spotlighted hidden local gems with creators and designers whose work often goes unnoticed. If there’s one thing to take away from Orlando Fashion Week, it’s that Orlando is more than just theme parks and shopping. It’s a city bustling with creativity and originality and a community that thrives on imagination and innovation.
