As of January 22, 2026, Timothée Chalamet made Oscar history as the youngest actor to secure three Best Actor nominations with his lead role in Marty Supreme as Marty Mauser. Though he has not yet been selected as the winner of these nominations, he has made his mark on the industry. Chalamet is only 30 years old and is already reshaping the film industry with his phenomenal acting skills, as shown through his roles in Call Me By Your Name, A Complete Unknown, and now, Marty Supreme.
Chalamet is a French-American actor who is currently one of the most prominent Hollywood faces. He was born in Manhattan, New York, on December 27, 1995. Since around April 2023, he has been in a serious relationship with celebrity Kylie Jenner. His parents are Marc Chalamet and Nicole Flender, a former actress and Broadway dancer, and he has one sister named Pauline Chalamet, who is also an actress. Chalamet’s own passion and dedication to acting and theater began at birth, and he went on to attend Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts: a school known for its famous alumni of actors and actresses, such as Jennifer Aniston. Following his high school years, he also temporarily attended Columbia University, a prestigious Ivy League institution that provides a top-tier performing arts program.
In 2014, at age 19, Chalamet made his first film debut in Interstellar, which is regarded by some as a modern masterpiece. There he played the role of Matthew McConaughey’s teenage son. In 2017, the young actor also had major breakthroughs with his movies Lady Bird, directed by Greta Gerwig, and Call Me By Your Name, directed by Luca Guadagnino. Call Me By Your Name scored Chalamet his first Best Actor nomination from the Academy Awards, along with the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, and several different Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actor of the Year. In the drama and coming-of-age story, he portrays Elio, an Italian 17-year-old who has a romance with his father’s older male assistant, exploring a self-discovery. Sufjan Stevens’ iconic film score in Call Me By Your Name heightens the movie’s emotional depth, with his notable songs “Futile Devices” and “Mystery of Love.” What’s more, an edit of Chalamet in the movie went viral on TikTok, now being referred to as the “2020 Edit,” leaving millions in awe of him.
Following these hit movies came Beautiful Boy, directed by Felix Van Groeningen in 2018. The film reflected on his character’s struggle with substance abuse. Due to his character’s internal conflict, he decided to go all in for the role and lose lots of weight quickly. In 2019, Little Women, directed by Greta Gerwig, follows the March sisters’ lives as they grow out of their youth and into adulthood, and it includes Chalemet’s romantic relationships with two of the sisters: Jo and Amy. The movie is a film adaptation of the popular book Little Women, written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, that quickly became a beloved classic, as it described her personal childhood experiences. Chalamet’s Oscar-nominated movie A Complete Unknown, about music artist Bob Dylan’s
rise to fame, was released on Christmas Day of 2024. It required Chalamet to put in roughly five long years of practice to perfect his voice and guitar skills for his role.
Exactly a year later, on Christmas Day of 2025, he again astonished audiences with the release of Marty Supreme, which is based on ping-pong star Marty Reisman’s legendary journey to make his mark on the up-and-coming sport of ping-pong. The highly acclaimed film highlights his exceptional talents, including his relentless training to become a table tennis master in the span of seven years and his stunt performances. This lengthy challenge to tackle the role consisted of starting ping-pong lessons in 2018, and when Covid-19 hit, moving all his furniture out of his living room in his Tribeca house to replace it with a professional-grade table tennis set to practice. His dedication to his films is very recognizable, as he goes above and beyond, with over half a decade of training for this particular movie.
In 1953, Marlon Brando became the youngest person to receive three Best Actor nominations. Brando held the record for over 70 years, until this year when the 30-year-old Chalamet received three nominations. Brando was famous for his notable lead roles as Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather and Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront. Additionally, despite winning his nomination for The Godfather, he famously rejected the 1973 Best Actor Oscar to protest how mistreated Native Americans were in the film industry. This moment became known as one of the most unforgettable and also controversial events in Oscar history, and it helped improve the industry’s portrayal of Indigenous people. A mistreated Native American actress known as Sacheen Littlefeather denied the award on his behalf with only 60 seconds to make her speech, or else she would be kicked off and arrested on the spot. Despite refusing the physical Oscar, he is still officially that year’s winner for his striking performance in The Godfather. Brando achieved his third Best Actor nomination a month before turning 31.
Chalamet has also broken the record of being the youngest person to have a double-nomination for both acting and producing a film with the release of Marty Supreme. While only being 30, he has already become one of the most heavily praised actors amongst his peers and critics of his generation. This accolade and all of his other awards are well-deserved because of Chalamet’s commitment to his diverse roles, that take months of dedication to perfect and to the redefinition of gender norms in Hollywood by conveying that not only women but also men can express themselves with fashionable outfits. With these three Best Actor nominations, Chalamet is leading the way for a new film generation.
